Dr. Julia Shalit explains that the Classic Porcelain Veneer is a wafer thin shell of ceramic that is bonded onto the front side of a tooth. This is the side of the tooth that is seen when smiling.
It successfully covers:
- worn tooth enamel often associated with aging
- uneven tooth alignment
- spacing or chips in the tooth.
Veneers create a great, white smile while at the same time protect the damaged.
The classic porcelain veneer measures only 1 millimeter in thickness or less, resulting in very little actual tooth reduction when Dr. Shalit prepares the tooth for a porcelain veneer.
Dr. Shalit finds that the less sound tooth structure that is sacrificed in preparing the tooth for the veneer, the less traumatic for both the tooth and you!
How Are Veneers Applied?

Veneers are applied to the teeth in 2 visits to the dentist:
Visit # 1: Veneer Preparation The teeth are prepared by removing 0.3 to 0.5 mm of enamel (the thickness of a fingernail) to allow room for the veneer layer. Dr. Shalit will take an impression (mold) of the teeth which she will then send to the specialized dental laboratory that will create the veneers.
Visit #2: Veneer Bonding Dr. Shalit will fit the veneer and if it looks and feels right she will bond the veneer to the natural tooth thus permanently attaching it. The bonding process includes cleaning the teeth first, bonding the veneer onto the tooth with a special dental cement and then hardening the cement with a blue curing light.

David Beetle, Fishers Indiana. I just wanted to say thank you to Dr. Julia Shalit …did a fantastic job on my new teeth. I want to say new teeth because that’s basically what they are. The teeth are whiter, and I had new veneers put on the front…Before I was afraid to start up a conversation, I’d be looking down, and now I can smile with confidence and I just wanted to say thank you very much.”
